Legal Ledger Brief: FSIS announces rate changes

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced its 2022 rates for providing voluntary, overtime and holiday inspection, identification, certification and laboratory services. The new rates took effect Jan. 2.

The American Rescue Plan Act provided FSIS with $100 million to reduce the costs of overtime inspection for small and very small official meat and poultry establishments.

FSIS also reduced overtime and holiday inspection fees for small establishments by 30 percent and very small establishments by 75 percent.

The new 2022 rates are as follows and are charged per hour, per employee:

basetime, $67.

overtime, $2.60.

holiday, $98.20.

laboratory, $85.72.

export application, $4.01.
