A federal appeals court has ruled the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) must review animal advocacy group Friends of Animals’ petition to include a wild horse on the list of endangered species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
In 2017, USFWS said the submission did not qualify as a petition and dismissed it. USFWS will now have to consider the group’s petition that the Pryor Mountain horse, found in Montana and Wyoming, be listed under the ESA.
