Valley Oaks Steak Company has closed its doors effective immediately as a result of a “constant barrage of legal battles and extensive marketing efforts needed to counter misinformation.”
The Lone Jack, MO, feedlot was recently hit by a lawsuit from 141 nearby property owners who claimed the operation “negatively impacted those homeowners’ quality of life.”
In a statement released on the company Facebook page, Valley Oaks said, “Unfortunately, Valley Oaks became a lightning rod for individuals and organizations opposed to animal agriculture operations.
While we understand there were skeptics of our approach, Valley Oaks became a target for groups that used us to advance their own fundraising campaigns.”
The company noted the original success of its modern business model to reduce its carbon footprint, which led to the plans for expansion.
This expansion plan is what sparked the “fear-mongering campaigns” against the company. “Instead of examining the science and visiting our facility to see the reality for themselves, we and our families were made the subject of relentless personal attacks,” the company said.
As a result of the legal fees and court battles, the company will be closing its doors.
