The Biden administration has announced it will expand the availability of biofuels through the summer in an attempt to increase fuel supplies and reduce gas prices.
The Environmental Protection Agency will allow E15 gasoline to be sold this summer. The blend is typically not allowed to be sold from June 1 to Sept. 15 due to Clean Air Act restrictions for air pollution concerns.
The American Farm Bureau Federation applauded the act, with President Zippy Duvall saying, “America’s families are enduring record-high gas prices, and taking advantage of domestically produced fuels will not only drive down costs at the pump, it will also reduce dependence on foreign crude oil.”
However, some critics have noted an increased use in E15 could send corn prices even higher, adding further constraints to farmers and ranchers.
