The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) seeks public comment on its interim final rule for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP).
The program is the nation’s largest conservation program in terms of participating land, according to USDA, and is designed to help farmers participate in more conservation activities.
Changes to CSP include: increasing payment rates for adopting cover crop rotations; introducing a new supplemental payment for advanced grazing management; creating a payment for developing a comprehensive conservation plan; and providing specific support for organic activities and transitioning to organic activities.
The interim rule is available in the Federal Register and comments will be accepted until Jan. 13, 2020.
Comments may be submitted online at regulations.gov by searching for Docket ID NRCS-2019-0020.
NRCS will review comments after the deadline and determine if any additional changes are necessary before publishing a final rule.
