Colorado’s Secretary of State Jena Griswold (D) approved a petition on June 21 asking for signatures regarding a wolf introduction proposal on the November 2020 ballot.
The petition needs 124,632 signatures by Dec. 13, 2019, to add the proposal to next year’s election ballot.
If the petition reaches the signatures required, Colorado could become the first state where voters choose to reintroduce the apex predators rather than wildlife scientists.
The restoration proposal would introduce gray wolves west of the Continental Divide and require the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission to create a restoration and management plan for gray wolves.
