California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) recently signed 24 bills that focus on climate, as well as drought and wildfire preparedness. The California Comeback Plan includes $15 billion in funding, the largest investment of its kind in state history.
Newsom said the measures will bolster: “wildfire resilience, funding to tackle the drought emergency while building long-term water resilience, and strategic investments across the spectrum to protect communities from extreme heat, sea level rise and other climate risks that endanger the most vulnerable among us.”
Specifically, the package includes: $1.5 billion for wildfire and forest resilience; $5.2 billion for water and drought resilience; $3.7 billion in climate resilience; $1.1 billion to support climate smart agriculture; $3.9 billion for zero-emission vehicles; $270 million to reduce short-lived climate pollutants from the water sector; and $150 million to support urban waterfront parks.
