Legal Ledger Brief: BLM reviewing sage grouse plans

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will begin reviewing updates to the 2015 land management plans regarding greater sage-grouse protections.

The agency noted previous changes made to the plans by the Trump administration “have been enjoined by courts.”

BLM will also review whether a withdrawal from mineral location and entry is necessary for conserving the bird. If withdrawn, hardrock mining in sagebrush focal areas could be limited.

BLM will work with the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Forest Service to assess actions needed to conserve sage grouse and sagebrush.
