The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Nevada State Office has completed a preliminary environmental assessment called Targeted Grazing of Annual Grasses in the Great Basin Ecoregions in Nevada.
Ecological sites in the Great Basin are being evaluated for how to use livestock grazing to address wildfire risk from invasive annual grasses. More than 24,500,000 acres of land are included in the assessment, administered by the Battle Mountain, Carson City, Elko, Ely, and Winnemucca BLM districts.
The BLM will host four virtual meetings open to the public over the assessment, until the closing of the commenting period on July 9.
Meetings are for informational purposes only and will not be for submitting comments. Meeting dates and times are as follows: June 24 from 10 a.m. to noon, and 6 to 8 p.m.; and June 26 from 1 to 3 p.m., and 5 to 7 p.m.
The meetings may be accessed via the blm.gov site. Written comments may be submitted at eplanning.blm.gov by searching for NEPA # DOI-BLM-NV-0000-2019-0003-EA; by email to BLM_NV_TargetedGrazing@blm.gov; or by mail to BLM Nevada State Office, Attn: Kathryn Dyer, 1340 Financial Blvd., Reno, NV 89502.
