Legal Ledger Brief: Beef Board seeks state nominations

The USDA is accepting applications from state cattle associations or state general farm organizations interested in nominating beef, dairy or veal producers or importers to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board.

State cattle or farm organizations wishing to participate in the nomination process must represent a substantial number of industry producers, have a history of stability and permanency, and have a primary purpose to promote the economic welfare of cattle producers.

Importer organizations or associations wishing to participate in the nominating process will have the following criteria considered: number and type of members represented; annual import volume; stability and permanency of the organization; age of the organization; and the countries of origin for imported beef products.

An application for the certification of organization or association must be completed for nomination, and is available on the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service website.

Applications are due by Feb. 22. For more information about the process, contact Barbara Josselyn of the research and promotion division at 202-690-2611 or Barbara.Josselyn@usda.gov.
