After a request by Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has agreed to extend the commenting period over a proposal to allow the American Prairie Reserve (APR) to graze bison on BLM allotments.
The public now has 90 days to comment on the BLM’s draft environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for the proposal to graze on BLM lands in Phillips County, MT.
“While 60 days already far exceeds any requirements for this type of [National Environmental Policy Act] activity, we recognize this proposal has generated greater public interest than similar grazing permit applications,” said John Mehlhoff, BLM Montana-Dakotas state director.
Comments are due by Sept. 28 and can be submitted by visiting eplanning.blm.gov and searching for NEPA number DOI-BLM-MT-L010-2018-0007-EA; or by mail to BLM Malta Field Office; Re: APR Grazing Proposal; 501 South 2nd Street East; Malta, MT 59538.
