The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is seeking feedback on its proposed list of pests and diseases of concern that are likely to pose a high risk to U.S. agricultural and natural resources.
The agency is accepting comments on which pests and diseases should be added or removed based on whether they are “likely to pose a significant risk to the food and agricultural critical infrastructure sector” and is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all possible pests or diseases.
Diseases of note to the livestock industry are African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease. For a complete list of the diseases and pests, visit the APHIS website at aphis.usda.gov and search pests and diseases of concern. Comments can be emailed to APHISPestDiseaseList@usda.gov.
