The Federal Task Force on Combating Antibiotic-resistant Bacteria released the updated National Action Plan for Combating Antibiotic-resistant Bacteria (CARB) 2020-2025.
The plan seeks to improve Americans’ health by prioritizing infection prevention and control to slow the spread of resistant infections and reduce the need for antibiotic use.
Some highlights of the plan include: the development of rapid diagnostic tests for the identification of resistant bacteria; the development of new antibiotics; and international cooperation for antibiotic research and prevention.
The plan is based on the U.S. government’s 2014 National Strategy for CARB, which has been shown to reduce antibiotic resistance by reforming antibiotics in animal health and humans.
