The language for Colorado proposed ballot initiative 13, which would halt the reintroduction of gray wolves in the state, has been approved.

The language reads as: “Shall there be a change to the Colorado Revised Statutes concerning the presence of wolves in Colorado, and, in connection therewith, ending the reintroduction of gray wolves by December 31, 2026; removing ‘nongame’ from the definition of gray wolf; including livestock guard and herding animals as livestock for the purposes of compensation for losses caused by a gray wolf; and prohibiting the importation of wolves into Colorado?”

The measure is sponsored by Colorado Advocates for Smart Wolf Policy, whose goal is to protect the interests of Coloradans affected by wolf reintroduction. Previously, state industry groups and county commissioners asked the group to withdraw the measure, saying it was brought without consulting primary stakeholder groups.
