Klamath Basin irrigators are urging the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation

California Farm Bureau Federation

The Bureau of Reclamation is expected to meet Klamath Project water contractor demands for 2025.

“After eight years of dry hydrologic conditions and regulatory challenges, the Klamath Project water users are poised to have a full and successful water year,” said Reclamation Acting Regional Director Adam Nickels.

He continued that they have been experiencing the wettest conditions since 2017, which bodes well for the 2025 irrigation season. The Klamath Water Users Association (KWUA) said it was mixed in its reaction to the news.

“There should be no doubt that there will be adequate irrigation water in 2025,” said KWUA President Scott Seus. However, “Reclamation is using rules for distributing water that are completely unrealistic and will be devastating to farms in all but a very wet year like this one.”
