Kentucky state Sen. Robin Webb (D-Grayson) introduced state legislation SR 208. The bill’s purpose is to “encourage the United States attorney general and the attorney general of the state of Kentucky to investigate the Humane Society of the United States for false and misleading fundraising practices.” The bill notes that promotional material for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is “full of dogs and cats, giving the impression that this is the primary focus of HSUS,” yet that the group’s own publicly-available information shows that only 20 percent of its efforts are focused on companion animals. The bill also points out that several other state attorneys general have investigated or spoken out against the group for misleading advertisements. — WLJ
