Deere & Co. announced on July 1 the company would lay off more than 800 workers in the Midwest.
The company told Fox Business, “We can confirm Deere leadership recently communicated that rising operational costs and declining market demand requires enterprise-wide changes in how work gets done to achieve our goals and best position the company for the future.”
The company also suggested it would move operations to other areas with lower labor costs, such as Mexico. Deere plans to lay off 503 employees at an Illinois plant beginning in September, along with more than 300 workers at plants in Iowa by the end of August.
