New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a $1.1 million settlement with JBS USA for misleading the public about its “net zero by 2040” claims.
The 2024 lawsuit revealed JBS had no plan or data to achieve such reductions and was instead increasing production. Under the agreement, JBS will fund climate-smart agriculture programs that help New York farmers cut emissions and boost resilience. The company must also stop deceptive environmental marketing, reform its advertising practices, and submit annual compliance reports to the Attorney General’s Office for three years.
