Water negotiations between surface water and groundwater users in Idaho continue after a mitigation plan failed to come together by Idaho Gov. Brad Little’s (R) Oct. 1 deadline.

Little said in a press release that water users are “nearing the finish line” on a mitigation plan for the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer. Groundwater management plans were submitted by each side by the Sept. 1 deadline, but an agreement failed to be reached by Oct. 1.

After a mitigation plan is agreed upon, the plan will be reviewed by the groundwater district boards and canal boards and their memberships.
