The Idaho Cattle Association (ICA) is now accepting donations for their Wildfire Relief Fund, which supports beef cattle producers affected by this year’s fires in Idaho.

Established in 2022, the fund is entirely funded by private contributions and has been supported by AgWest Farm Credit, ICA fundraising and general donations. Applications for relief funding will be accepted until Oct. 15 for local associations, Idaho cattle producers, volunteer fire departments or any entities that assisted in combating the 2024 wildfires. Eligible expenses for relief might include emergency feed, transport, pasturing or fencing losses.

Those wishing to donate to the fund or receive an application can contact the ICA’s office at 208-343-1615 or visit idahocattle.org.

In related news, the Bureau of Land Management will conduct an emergency gather of wild horses from the Sands Basin and Four Mile herd management areas (HMAs) due to extensive fire damage. The Jump and Paddock fires, which burned 25,720 and 187,185 acres, respectively, have left insufficient vegetation to sustain the horses through winter, though no horses have been reported lost.

The Sands Basin HMA near Marsing will see about 40 horses gathered, while the Four Mile HMA north of Emmett will see around 52 horses gathered.
