The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) detected highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in dairy cattle in Churchill County, marking the second outbreak in the state after Nye County in December.
“Ensuring the safety of the industry is our utmost priority,” said NDA State Veterinarian Peter Rolfe.
The NDA assures the public that dairy and meat products remain safe, as pasteurization prevents transmission. “We recommend following food safety guidelines,” Rolfe said.
HPAI has been detected in dairy cattle across 16 states since March.
