The House of Representatives in early September voted to roll back three Biden-era resource management plans that restricted resource development on federal lands.
House Joint Resolution 104 passed on near-partisan lines, with only Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01) breaking from his party’s majority “yes” vote. The resource management plans are in place for the Central Yukon in Alaska, Miles City in Montana and North Dakota. The plan blocks energy and infrastructure development on more than 13.3 million areas in Alaska, locks up more than 2.75 million acres of land and 11.7 million acres of mineral estate in Montana and bars coal leasing and oil and gas development on more than 4 million acres in North Dakota.
“At a time when energy demand is reaching record highs and Americans want to pay less for everything, locking up responsible energy development is the exact opposite of what we need,” said Rep. Julie Fedorchak (R-ND-At large). The Senate will now consider the resolution.
