FSIS issues food safety recalls

USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced food safety recalls on ground beef and prosciutto and is concerned products may be in consumers’ refrigerators.

On May 1, Cargill Meat Solutions recalled approximately 16,243 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli. The raw ground beef items were produced on April 26-27 and bear lot codes 117 and 118 and the establishment number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the product label. The items were shipped to Walmart retail locations nationwide in 1.33-lb. and 2.25-lb. plastic trays of various quality grades of ground beef and patties. The affected products can be found at tinyurl.com/mr49mj6u.

ConSup North America Inc. issued a recall on April 24 for approximately 85,984 lbs. of ready-to-eat sliced prosciutto ham product produced in Germany without the benefit of inspection. The prosciutto was shipped nationwide in 5.29-oz. plastic packages containing “Stockmeyer PROSCIUTTO Product of GERMANY” with lot codes 09118-3A, 09118-3B, 09120-3A, 09120-3B, 13133-3A, 13133-3B, 13104-3A, 13104-3B, 13105-3A, 13105-3B, 13109-3A and 13109-3B and “BEST BEFORE” dates of May 26, July 7, Aug. 4, Aug. 11 and Oct. 7.

FSIS is concerned these products may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have bought these products are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase. — WLJ
