Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) confirmed two reintroduced gray wolves have successfully reproduced in Grand County with a confirmed sighting of the first wolf pup.

On June 18, CPW biologists confirmed the presence of one wolf pup in Grand County during routine monitoring efforts, which included air and ground observations, remote cameras and public sightings. Although only one pup was confirmed, CPW said there may be more, as wolf litters typically consist of four to six pups.

The wolves are officially named the Copper Creek Pack with this successful reproduction. There are currently no photos or videos of the pup.

“We are continuing to actively monitor this area while exercising extreme caution to avoid inadvertently disturbing the adult wolves, this pup, or other pups,” said CPW Wildlife Biologist Brenna Cassidy.
