Preferred Beef Group suffered a major fire Jan. 26 at its packing facility in Booker, TX, management confirmed to Meatingplace.

The plant, which employs more than 300 people, sits in the far northern Texas Panhandle about 3.5 miles from the Oklahoma border.

The Booker Fire Department said the fire began around 7:45 a.m. and was battled with help from neighboring departments, including crews from Liberal, KS. No injuries were reported.

According to local news outlet KFDA, Booker ISD Superintendent Michael Lee said the company is the community’s largest employer, directly affecting 94 families. Preferred Beef is a nationwide supplier, processing more than 200,000 head annually, according to Chartwell Consulting.
