The European Union (EU) is again proposing to delay its anti-deforestation rule by one year.
The rule would ban imports of products alleged to be driving deforestation. It was set to take effect at the end of the year, but the EU Commission said the supporting system is not ready.
“We have concluded that we cannot meet the original deadline without causing disruptions to our businesses and supply chains,” commission spokesman Olof Gill told a press conference in Brussels, Belgium. The rule was originally set to take effect at the end of 2024 but was delayed a year.
