England is mandating the use of electronic identification (EID) over the next two years in an effort to strengthen the United Kingdom’s (UK) ability to prevent, detect and respond to animal disease outbreaks.
Beginning in 2027, all newborn calves will be required to have EID using low frequency technology.
“Following the wide-reaching sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) deal recently agreed at the UK-EU summit, this decision will further benefit livestock businesses in England by reducing trade friction and boosting their ability to export agri-food products abroad,” the government said.
