The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a multistate E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder burgers, with 49 people sick across 10 states, 10 hospitalizations and one death in Colorado.
McDonald’s Chief Supply Chain Officer Cesar Piña said in a statement the outbreak is believed to be connected to slivered onions from a single supplier. In response, the company has removed the Quarter Pounder from locations in Colorado, Kansas, Utah and Wyoming, as well as portions of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Piña said, “All other menu items, including other beef products,” are unaffected, and the company will continue to work with CDC to provide “timely updates as we restore our full menu.”
