The Department of the Interior (DOI) and the Bureau of Reclamation announced progress in protecting the short-term health of the Colorado River System.
Eighteen short-term conservation agreements with water users in Arizona and California will conserve about 321,000 acre-feet of water through 2026, equivalent to five feet of elevation in Lake Mead.
These agreements support Tribes, cities and farmers while developing new long-term water management plans, the agencies said. Interior and Reclamation continue working with all seven basin states and Tribal nations to ensure a sustainable future for the 40 million people who depend on the Colorado River.
