The Department of the Interior (DOI) and the Bureau of Reclamation, in partnership with the Upper Colorado River Commission, have made progress deploying a $50 million investment to improve water infrastructure across the Upper Colorado River Basin.

Supported by Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, the effort includes the installation of 10 eddy covariance towers, 31 streamgages, and the launch of Airborne Snow Observatory programs. These tools enhance the accuracy of water use and drought monitoring.

Over the next two years, the states plan to add more streamgages, weather stations and diversion measurements. This initiative supports ongoing efforts to develop post-2026 Colorado River management guidelines.
