The gray wolf is still protected in western Oregon

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) officials confirmed an Oct. 23 calf injury in Ferry County as a wolf depredation by the Sherman Pack.

However, a temporary restraining order issued Oct. 14 prohibits WDFW from considering lethal removal while the case proceeds in King County Superior Court. A preliminary injunction hearing was scheduled for Oct. 30.

Meanwhile, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife managers report continued wolf activity near the Mt. Hood National Forest, where two wolves established residency earlier this year. Additionally, wolf OR163 has dispersed from the Warm Springs Pack, paired with a male, and produced pups on the Warm Springs Reservation, marking an expanding wolf presence in the region.
