The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has confirmed chronic wasting disease (CWD) was detected in Elk Hunt Area 92 in a cow elk in November.

Elk Hunt Area 92, situated in the Pinedale Region, shares a boundary with Elk Hunt Area 98 to the south, where CWD was previously identified in 2021.

To keep hunters well-informed, Game and Fish announces the detection of CWD in new hunt areas. Following Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, hunters are advised against consuming animals exhibiting signs of illness or testing positive for CWD. In 2022, Game and Fish personnel conducted 6,701 CWD lymph node tests on deer, elk and moose samples, primarily sourced from hunters. CWD is a 100% fatal condition for infected deer, elk and moose.

A map of CWD endemic areas is provided on the Game and Fish website at tinyurl.com/8vrjc4fe.
