CPW releases annual wolf report

Colorado Parks and Wildlife released five gray wolves onto public land in Grand County

Colorado Parks and Wildlife

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) released its second annual report detailing gray wolf restoration and management from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.

The report outlines CPW’s three-phase approach to restoration—capture, translocation and release—and ongoing efforts to monitor wolves and reduce conflicts with livestock. It also highlights the agency’s research on wolf ecology and biology, along with education and outreach initiatives.

CPW aims to release 10-15 wolves annually over a three-to-five-year period. Incidents occurring after March 31, such as recent livestock depredations, new denning activity and wolf mortalities, will appear in next year’s report.

The impact of wolves on big game in Idaho is tragic. Efforts to correct have not been effective. You do not address this issue in your report. You should.

Releasing captured wolves in a new ecozone is a mission of disaster. First of wolves will learn to prey on the easiest prey (cattle). SECOND FACTOR IS wolves will begin to prey on elk and deer. Mule deer are at risk with deminishing populations. 3 if CPW wants to do a way with hunting. The hunters will go out of state and CPW will have to fire a lot of employees. If you really want to have minimal impact release wolves around Estes Park that way the public can observe the wolves while lowering an in natural elk population
