Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) confirmed three wolf depredations in Rio Blanco County between July 20 and Aug. 2, all attributed to an uncollared wolf, with the situation now classified as chronic.

In response, CPW has partnered with producers and woolgrowers to implement 24-hour range riding and non-lethal deterrents. Although the events meet the criteria for lethal removal, ongoing evacuations due to the Elk Fire have shifted CPW’s focus to public and staff safety.

Separately, CPW confirmed the death of gray wolf 2304, part of the group originally translocated from Oregon, on July 24 in Wyoming. Due to Wyoming law, details remain limited, though CPW has retrieved the animal’s tracking collar. While wolves can naturally roam across state lines, CPW emphasized it does not comment on out-of-state wildlife operations.
