A Colorado judge has temporarily blocked the proposed $25 billion merger between Kroger and Albertsons, which was challenged by the Colorado attorney general.
Judge Andrew J. Luxen granted a preliminary injunction and canceled a hearing set for mid-August. Luxen will oversee a two-week trial over the merits of the proposed merger, beginning Sept. 30.
“This is great news for shoppers, workers, farmers and other suppliers, who can rest assured that this megamerger will not go into effect during harvest season and while kids are headed back to school,” said Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser in a statement.
