The Colombian government announced it received a health protocol approval from China to begin exporting beef to the country.
The health protocol was required by Beijing regulators so Colombia could regain the status of being free from foot-and-mouth disease across a vaccinated cattle population. Colombian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Jhenifer Mojica said the approval “will accelerate the process of admissibility of Colombian beef to China.”
The government has been working to open markets to China’s 1.4 billion inhabitants for a decade.
Minerva, S.A. said once bureaucratic procedures to effectively enable Colombian production units and final authorization to begin exports are worked out, the company has two production plants in Colombia that will join other plants in South America, “maximizing the exposure and our arbitration capacity for the Chinese market.”
