Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and the ODFW have agreed to a one-year agreement for Oregon to supply up to 10 wolves for Colorado’s wolf introduction plan. The wolves will be captured and translocated between December and March 2024.
“Oregon has a long history of helping other states meet their conservation goals by providing animals for translocation efforts,” said ODFW Director Curt Melcher. “The wolves will come from northeast Oregon, where wolves are most abundant in the state and where removal of 10 wolves will not impact any conservation goals.”
CPW will begin capture operations this December, with ODFW assisting with sharing wolf location and best practices for capture. CPW will be responsible for all costs. The agency plans to capture and reintroduce an equal number of males and females.
