USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced at a town hall meeting that the U.S. Forest Service is making $190 million available for private forest landowners to adapt to the effects of climate change.
Of the total, $140 million is allocated to support state-endorsed cost-share programs for landowners. These payments reduce financial barriers, enabling landowners to make forests more resilient to climate change and enhance carbon storage, the agency said.
Additionally, $50 million is available for programs that provide direct payments to landowners for adopting practices that increase carbon sequestration and storage in their forests, incentivizing carbon stewardship through improved forest management.
