At an American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) conference, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) enrolled attendees for research on influenza A (H5N1), particularly the risks it poses to veterinary professionals.

About 150 participants have been working closely with cattle in the past three months, including veterinarians, technicians and students from 45 states. They shared experiences working with cattle during the multi-state H5N1 bird flu outbreak. Blood samples were collected from participants to detect antibodies to better understand prior infections and current occupational risks among bovine veterinary practitioners.

Results will be shared with AABP members and the public.
