Authorities are investigating the disappearance of 180 cattle reported missing by ranchers along Colorado’s Western Slope.

According to the Colorado Sun, the cattle, primarily calves, were last seen grazing on national forest land near the Uncompahgre Plateau, southwest of Montrose. Sgt. Chuck Searcy of the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is in its early stages, with no confirmation of cattle theft. To protect victims, details such as cattle brands remain undisclosed. The case began after a Dec. 4 meeting with ranchers and the Colorado Brand Board.

Officials urge anyone with information to contact the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office at 970-249-9110.
