The Department of the Interior and San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority approved plans on Oct. 20 to create additional storage space in San Luis Reservoir, the nation’s largest off-stream reservoir in central California.
The joint project will create an additional 130,000 acre-feet of storage (an acre-foot is 325,851 gallons) to supply reliability to the area’s farms, municipalities, and the environment.
The project will add an additional 10 feet to the dam on top of the funding provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to increase the dam crest by 10 feet to improve seismic safety.
