On June 1, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) responded to an April letter written by California Cattlemen’s Association President, Dave Daley. In the formal response, the CDFW outlined a number of ways the department is trying to improve transparency regarding wolves. “When the department determines that a new wolf, either collared or an apparent uncollared wolf has entered the state, we will update the information on the department’s California’s Known Wolves document and post notice through its gray wolf web page as soon as is practical,” read the response letter. The referenced document can be found on the CDFW’s wolf page at wildlife.ca.gov/conservation/mammals/gray-wolf. — WLJ
