California’s farm production value reached $61.2 billion in 2024, up 3.6% from 2023 and the first time the state topped $60 billion, according to the USDA’s Economic Research Service.

Dairy products led the way at $8.6 billion, reaffirming California’s status as the nation’s top dairy producer. The top commodities also included almonds ($5.7 billion), grapes ($5.6 billion), and cattle and calves, which ranked fourth at $4.98 billion. Supplying about half of America’s fruits, nuts and vegetables, California’s other top commodities included lettuce, strawberries, pistachios, tomatoes, carrots and broilers.
