Boar’s Head closing plant over outbreak

Boar’s Head announced the indefinite closure of its Jarratt, VA, plant, which was linked to the ongoing listeria outbreak.

An investigation into the company identified the root cause of the contamination as a specific production process unique to the Jarratt facility, used exclusively for liverwurst. As a result, Boar’s Head has decided to discontinue liverwurst production permanently.

“This is a dark moment in our company’s history, but we intend to use this as an opportunity to enhance food safety programs not just for our company but for the entire industry,” Boar’s Head said.

A lawsuit against Boar’s Head seeks $48 million in damages after a man fell severely ill after consuming their products. Additionally, a separate class action suit alleges deceptive labeling and marketing practices, while another lawsuit involves a Missouri couple claiming the deli meats caused severe illness.
