Bluetongue outbreak in Europe

Bluetongue virus outbreaks in the United Kingdom (UK) and Norway have led to extended livestock movement restrictions.

In the UK, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs added Essex to the restricted zone, which already included Norfolk and Suffolk, after 27 animals on 10 premises tested positive. The virus was first detected near Haddiscoe, Suffolk, on August 26.

In Norway, the World Organization for Animal Health confirmed an outbreak on a southern sheep farm, where two affected sheep were euthanized for welfare reasons after testing positive for the disease.
