The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Richfield Field Office was set to begin gathering wild burros in Wayne County, UT, on Feb. 24 to manage their population within the Canyonlands Herd Management Area.

The operation, expected to last five days, aims to align the herd size with the appropriate management level of 60 to 100 animals, as the current population stands at 208. Approximately 100 burros will be removed using helicopter drive-trapping. Public lands will remain open unless safety concerns arise. Recreational drone use is prohibited in affected areas.

Removed burros will be relocated to the Axtell Wild Burro Contract Off-Range Corral in Utah.

Hello and Thank You For Your Time Lack of knowledge on my end but would like to know why the round up? Is something happening to them in the wild that would require a roundup? Are there any injuries or deaths to the donkeys during this operation? Thank You For Your Time
