The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public input on the Lahontan Wild Horse Gather Preliminary Environmental Assessment and comments under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The project area spans about 304,705 acres in Nevada’s Lyon and Churchill counties. According to a 2024 survey, BLM estimates that 518 wild horses currently occupy the area, far exceeding the appropriate management level of seven to 10 horses.

The agency proposes gathering and removing excess horses and encourages public comments by May 12 at tinyurl.com/4nkhsb3r.
