The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has proposed a plan to protect more than 4,000 acres in Sandoval County, NM.
The Department of the Interior said the plan would safeguard Tribal lands, boost recreation opportunities and support wildlife habitat connectivity. The plan would prevent new mining claims and oil and gas development for a 50-year period. More than 4,000 acres would be protected on four separate tracts.
“The Pueblos of San Felipe and Santa Ana have long sought protections for the Placitas area, which they consider ancestral and sacred lands,” according to the Interior.
