The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) finalized the resource management plan (RMP) for the Rock Springs Field Office in Wyoming.
The planning area includes about 3.6 million acres of BLM-administered surface land and 3.5 million acres of BLM-administered mineral estate. The plan places some restrictions on grazing, mining, recreation and energy development.
Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY-At large) introduced legislation on Jan. 7 to stop the Rock Springs RMP as well as the RMP for the Buffalo Field Office.
“BLM’s Buffalo and Rock Springs RMPs are nothing short of a federal sabotage of Wyoming’s economy, heritage and way of life,” Hageman said.
The Buffalo RMP prohibits new federal coal leasing on nearly 50 billion tons of reserves, and existing leases are projected to run out by 2041.
