The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Rawlins Field Office in southeastern Wyoming conducted a wild horse gather from July 15 to Aug. 2 in the Adobe Town Herd Management Area to address excess populations above the established level of 259-536 horses.
Covering nearly 348,000 acres, the gather removed horses from overpopulated rangeland to protect land health. Over the operation, 1,677 wild horses were gathered. A total of 1,624 horses were shipped to off-range holding facilities, and nine deaths occurred, including cases of capture myopathy and pre-existing conditions. Horses will be made available through adoption and sale programs after veterinary checks at facilities in Colorado and Wyoming, according to BLM.
